Matthew 6:25-34

"Learn from the way the lilies grow. They do not work or spin...Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself."

The semester is finally starting to pick up. Time is becoming less open, and assignments are slowly piling up. How easy it is to let the stresses of one day over take over everything. I really like to worry about what tomorrow will bring. I really like to plan my day so that tomorrow will be easier, or at least my workload will be less. But what about today? The lilies of the field are content at being simply lilies of the field. Can I not be content in being human, in being the way God made me? Tomorrow will truly take care of itself. It is a huge challenge to be like the lilies of the field. They are simply lilies and nothing more. A lily does not tell a rose it is less pretty. A lily is happy with its own beauty. Now getting away from personifying plants, I too need to learn to do this. Comparing myself to others is a huge distraction. It never leaves me with enough time to enjoy myself, to see what life is speaking to me right now. Tomorrow is full of wonderful adventures on the journey of life, but then again, and so much more importantly, so is today.

  1. Presently present or Be Here Now, as Ram Das said. Hard to focus on today always but sometimes we must take time to smell the roses, or lillies. D
